About This Project

One of my favorite pieces in my design collection is a first edition Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones. This was one of the first style books produced and really influence the Art Nouveau Era. Each page is beautifully laid out with pattern work and gold foiling that any designer can spend hours being engulfed by. This book has been one of my favorite inspiration for the design.

When I was first approached to do this book cover I knew that the Art Nouveau style would be the glue that tied all of these individual stories together. The almost lyrical style is a mature yet tasteful alternative to stereotypical cartooning. Although, it is a collection of stories for children I wanted medieval storybook feel. Once I married the graphic with the structure or a serif typeface I knew this was the right feel for this two-part series.
